i think i've seen the word desu in some of those chinese cartoon memes

real japanese pronounce the U in desu. not those tokyo hipsters i'm talkin about the real japanese in the countryside who you never see, they speak the real dank language, pronounce that U every time.

U would think it might be the other way around - the more “sophisticated” city going hipsers might put more effort into pronouncing the extra syllable and the country bumpkins would keep it short (fuckin lazy simpletons!) Weird, wild.

Sometimes i feel like you kind of hear an extremely subtle u in there though with the cityfolk
