Derek, in response to your question-
I have always thought of a crinkle as being more similar to a crease or crumple, as in clothes or other fabrics. The world could also have an onomatopoeic quality- just imagine the crinkling of tin foil or of a paper bag! Conversely, a wrinkle is more like a cosmetic imperfection or distortion- the most obvious examples being in a person's skin. So in this case, both crinkles and wrinkles can be described as being present in unironed clothes, but the two words have an overall different meaning. Hope this helped!
