A 9-year-old boy was seriously injured by a brown bear while hunting north of Anchorage, Alaska State Troopers said Wednesday. The child and a 41-year-old man were hunting Tuesday night in the Palmer Hay Flats area about 35 miles from the state s largest city when they came upon the bear, troopers said in an online statement. The bear mauled the boy, leaving him with serious injuries. The adult, who troopers say suffered minor injuries, shot and killed the bear. Both hunters were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Troopers say the two are related, but did not identify how. Troopers also did not immediately release their names or the boy s current condition.Troopers and Alaska Department of Fish and Game personnel were expected back in the hay flats area Wednesday to continue the investigation. - Jscw 8-year-old battles post-COVID syndrome The Hillsborough County Sheriff s Office said there was a peaceful resolution to a barricaded subject situation in Ruskin after nearly four hours of negotiations on Monday night. Authorities said they were called just after 4 p.m. to a home on the 1900 block of 33rd St SE for a welfare check on Sean Porter, 35. Officials said a mental health counselor called and said Porter was making suicidal threats. stanley cups uk The sheriff s office said at that time, they were unable to make contact with Porter. Additional 911 calls were made more than an hour later, around 5:40 p.m. The callers said Porter was involved in an argument with another person at the same property and fired a single gunshot before he went into a shed with two other people, an adult man and a woman. The sheriff s office said witnesses described the man and woman as possible hostages. At that time, authorities said Porter made more comments about harming himself and others. SWAT and Crisis Negotiators were called to the scene, where they worked for nearly four hours to get Porter to safely exit the shed. No one was injured, authorities said, and there was evidence of a possible gunshot wound in the shed. Howard said he is reviewing ballistic evidence before making a final decision. He must try to determine if the officer thought his life was in danger when he fired the fatal shots that fatally hit Brooks in the back, and he doesn t want to rush his decision. I think that we have to make a change in this country, Howard told CBS News correspondent Jeff Pegues. Howard said he knows he s under a microscope. Charging an officer with murder is extremely rare and the district attorney has to work with law enforcement on a day-to-day basis. We as prosecutors have got to quit offering that excuse. One of the most important things that a prosecutor can do is to charge a policeman, Howard said. Investigators are examining body-cam and surveillance footage. And Howard revealed for the first time he is looking into whether officers may have picked up shell casings on scene after the shooting, which means he could be considering tampering with evidence among the possible charges.Based on the footage of the shooting of Brooks, the officer s use of force was probably not necessary, said Jason Johnson, who was in charge of training when he served as deputy police commissioner in Baltimore.Johnson said not all use of force cases are cut and dry, even with vide stanley cup o. DeWine asks Biden for major disaster declaration for East Palestine after train derailment A New York judge ruled Wednesday that Donald Trump is no longer in contempt forfailing to turn over documents demanded in a subpoena by the state s attorney general. The former president s April 25 contempt finding came after he contested a December subpoena seeking records related to his personal finances and the financing of several properties. Trump claimed he had no material that was responsive to the subpoena, leading to demands by the judge and the office of New York Attorney General Letitia James that his attorneys provide detailed explanations of how they conducted their search. Recently, Gorilla Care Team members observed coughing, nasal discharge, and minor changes in appetite in several members of the gorilla population, the zoo wrote Friday. Upon the onset of these signs, the Animal Care and Veterinary Teams immediately pursued testing for SARS-CoV-2. The teams are collecting samples for testing for the Zoo s entire gorilla population, which includes 20 members living in four troops, and will regularly test the gorillas regardless of the presence of symptoms, the zoo said.
